Every year, TUCC President Terry Pickard challenges a restaurant to create an untraditional take on the traditional Christmas meal of Turkey and trimmings. This year, the challenge was picked up on 5 December by Va Bene, an Italian restaurant which has scored one of the highest levels during the Club’s year of gourmet experiences. As tradition dictates, the festive gathering was not about grading the food, the service, or the wines, but more of a social end-of-year get-together with friends and fellow foodies. Somehow Terry once again missed out on the visit by Santa.

In a first, modern Chinese cuisine restaurant BAO has given its walls up for contemporary art, with the opening presented on 28 September. Owner of the restaurant, TV celebrity chef Hector Jimenes-Bravo recently presented the exhibition of well-known Ukrainian artist Marianna Abramova entitled By the Roads of the Sun. To combine flavours and colours, emotions and their meaning, blending the art of modern cuisine with contemporary art is the main idea of the project. As skies get increasingly grey, you’re welcome to take a trip along the roads of the sun and capture some simulated rays this month in BAO.
