As is customary for members of the Commonwealth nations to convene on Remembrance Day, members of the diplomatic and international communities joined together on
11 November at Park of Glory to commemorate and honour those who have fallen in past conflicts. This year is especially significant as it marks the signing of the Armistice ending WWI in the forest of Compiegne in France. Exactly 100 years ago.
Members of the International business community started their weekend in style with The Big Meet at Famous on 2 November. The Austrian embassy along with members of the diplomatic community celebrated their national day at a grand reception on 25 October at the Hilton Hotel. A hundred years following the end of the WWI the event was also marked by the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Austria. Numerous guests from Ukraine and Austria, representatives of other countries and international organisations, partners and friends of Austria, along with Ambassador Hermine Poppeller, the Embassy team, and Advantage Austria Ukraine celebrated in great style.
Ivan Honchar Museum opened its doors on 8 November to reveal its latest exhibition, Identity Interrupted, by Ukrainian-American artist Ola Rondiak. The collection features 53 works, including paintings and sculptures, in dedication to the five-year anniversary of Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity. Ther series intertwines the history of the artist along with that of the country, the result of which is poignantly relevant. The exhibition remains on show until 9 December – don’t miss it.
