A nice quiet Sunday

15 June 2018

On 3 June, the International Women’s Club of Kyiv met at Ukrainske Selo with their families to enjoy the ethno spirit as well as the sun and fresh air. The husbands gathered round the grill preparing a tasty BBQ, chatting, and degusting the Czech beer, while IWCK members and their children partook in classes of yoga, pysanky, vinky with real flowers! One of the goals of the picnic was to raise funds in support of the Crimean Tatar group “Krymska Rodina” who was present at the event. The Crimean Tatars highlighted their culture in an authentic dance performance, music, and a Tatar embroidery workshop.

On 9 October, a documentary film “The Man Who Stole Banksy» that tells us about the most mysterious street-art contemporary artist was presented in the building of the Malaya Opera. Within this event, creator of the project CityArt, and initiator of the creation of series of murals in Kyiv – Geo Lerosom presented a book – Kyiv Street Art vol. 2. Also, muralist-artists Apolo Torres (Brazil) and Matt Down (Belgium) gave a short, but very interesting lecture on street art before the show.

On 12 September, 40 Ukrainian Connoisseurs Club members gathered at Veranda restaurant for a ‘Super TUCC’ event – one of the largest attendances yet. The exquisite cuisine and specially-selected paired wines in combination with the great service made for one of the most enjoyable dining experiences in the club’s 16-year history. This level is sure to achieve Veranda a TUCC 5* rating.

On August 30, a presentation of the Association of Mentoring for Children and Youth – a group created for the systematic support of children in boarding schools and those who have faced difficult living conditions, was held in Vatra restaurant.

Mentorship offers a great opportunity to connect with children who are away from their homes to let them know that they are not alone and they have support on the outside. The organisers themselves are no less impressive: leading Ukrainian and international experts – Kidsave (USA), One Hope (UA), My Home (UA), along with Mykola Kuleba, ombudsman of the President of Ukraine for Children.

Together we can help to reform the system and find permanent families for orphans and life-long mentors for at-risk children and youth.
