How to Stay Fit at Home

As the realities of quarantine life set in, people around the world are finding new ways to keep up with their fitness routines. Fortunately, many fitness companies have ‘stepped up’ and are offering limited-time memberships at no cost! And with new quarantine rules coming into effect, there’s no better time to learn how to stay fit at home.

Find Some Space

First, find a comfortable place to train. You might need to get creative in space-challenged Ukrainian apartments, but all you really need is a place where you can lie comfortably on the floor and have enough space to stretch out your limbs.

Find a Routine

The next step is to find an application or website to help guide your workout. Many fitness providers are now offering free online classes. We recommend checking out popular gym websites (like Orange Theory), your favourite sports brand (like Nike), or your preferred fitness app (like ClassPass), to see what they’re offering.

Staying fit is much more enjoyable when you find a routine that suits your fitness goals and challenges you. Are you looking to build muscle, lose weight, or stay fit? Whatever your goal is, most fitness apps will accommodate your needs. So, try a few, and once you find one that you like, stick with it.

Get into a Routine

Fitness comes down to two major factors – intensity and frequency. Try and plan out your days to allow more time for fitness. If you aim to gain muscle, then a workout before lunch or dinner is best. Otherwise, if you’re seeking to lose weight, then a workout after a meal helps to burn the calories you just consumed.

Fitness is also a great way to bond, so get your whole family involved! A lot of apps have workouts specifically designed for kids (like PopSugar Fitness). Get into a competition with your roommate or be a fitness flirt with your neighbour over the fence – whatever it takes to get you motivated!

Learn a Skill

Maybe you’ve been eager to learn one of those Tik Tok dances going viral at the moment or perhaps you’ve been longing for a relaxing yoga session – well, now’s your chance!

Learning a new skill is only a click away in today’s digital age. There are plenty of ‘how-to’ videos on YouTube to show you how to dance Salsa, perform a taekwondo pattern, or learn that Lotus pose. Whatever floats your boat – find some time and make it happen.

Get creative

Once you’ve got into the routine of taking time for fitness, try to shake it up a bit. Doing weights? Try a HIIT workout. Bored of stepping on and off your couch? Try a Zumba dance challenge.

For inspiration, check out your favourite athletes on social media. Many are uploading videos of them training at home, including the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine’s #тренуйсявдома (#TrainAtHome) campaign.

Should I Buy Equipment?

With quarantine already extended until April 24 – and with strong indications that it could stretch into May or June – it may be a good idea to purchase some fitness equipment.

If you regularly go to the gym, you’ll already know what to look for. If you’re new to fitness, we recommend finding a routine you like before adding any equipment.

Online retailers like Sportmarket.com.ua, Terrasport.ua, and Rozetka.com.ua will deliver to your home, so if you find something affordable and you have the space at home – now is the time to turn your home into your gym.

Stay home. Stay safe. And stay fit!
