If the Cap Fits…

A hat is still much more than a piece of clothing. It is the most noticeable accessory anyone can wear. Madonna emphasised the significance of this item even more as she graced the cover of the August issue of Vogue Italia donning stylish headwear – tailor-made by promising Ukrainian designer, Lviv-born Ruslan Baginskiy.

Before the celebrated pop diva turned 60, she took part in a photoshoot Just One Day Out Of Life for the issue. While sporting looks from famous couturiers – Fendi, Rochas, Miu Miu, Dior, Prada, and Dolce&Gabbana, and others – she wore two Baginskiy hats for two images, including the black-and-white cover, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. The photo session took place in Lisbon, where the pop icon lived with four of her six children.

Baginskiy wrote in Ukrainian on his Facebook page: “How did we manage to do it? Very easy. You get an order marked as ‘Urgent’ from a stylist, then you have only one night to embroider a fedora with hearts, arrows, and phrases from Madonna’s songs, including Beautiful Game, which was at the time brand-new but kept secret. At the same time, you purchase tickets to Lisbon and dispatch an assistant to Portugal to deliver the hats directly to the photoshoot site.”

Madonna obviously liked the unique fedora so much she demonstrated it again in a video posted on her Instagram page.

Baginskiy remarked on his Instagram: “We are infinitely happy that Madonna continues wearing our hats even after the shoot – that is everything you can dream about.”

Set up in 2013 as a niche brand, Ruslan Baginskiy later launched a commercial line. Apart from Ukrainian celebrities, the brand is favoured by many world-known stars – Kaia Gerber, Pamela Anderson, Irina Shayk, Bella Hadid, Anna Dello Russo, and Kourtney Kardashian. The list keeps expanding as famous Chinese actress Gong Li wearing a leather Ruslan Baginskiy baker boy cap poses for the cover of Marie Claire China’s September issue, the Ukrainian designer announced across social media.
