Also, pay attention to the third full-length film from Ukrainian award-winning director Alisa Kovalenko, Home Games. This is a documentary co-production from Ukraine, France, and Poland. The film won an award at the Odesa International Film Festival in the category “Best European Documentary Film”.

The plot centres on 20-year-old Alina, who is a talented football player. She is about to join the Ukrainian national team, but when the crucial season starts her mother dies of alcoholism and now Alina is a substitute mother. Neglected by her parents because of their constant problems with alcohol and the law, Alina tries to deal with the family’s financial problems on her own and provide a stable childhood for her little sister and brother. Only with the support of her grandmother and her own self-confidence, is she able to cope with issues as they arise. Alina is forced to choose: football or family. Will she find the courage to move further, when everything is out of control? Find out by watching the movie.
