Shevchenko Gets Star on Kyiv’s Walk of Fame
14 September 2019
Andriy Shevchenko, the manager of Ukraine’s national football team and former star of Dynamo Kyiv, was recognised with a star on Kyiv’s-own “Walk of Fame” last month alongside hockey legend Dmitri Khristich and two-time world champion rhythmic gymnast Irina Deriugina. One of Ukraine’s most famous personalities – both in Ukraine and around the world – Shevchenko was named FIFA’s World Player of the Year in 2004 while playing with Italy’s AC Milan. He memorably netted two goals at home in Ukraine’s first EURO 2012 game to help the team to a 2-1 victory over Sweden.
Kyiv’s ‘Star Square’ is located in the centre near the Gulliver Mall and honours Ukraine’s most prominent stars in music, movies, and sport.
