Christofer Makos: Andy Warhol’s Epoch

(Exhibition of photographic works)

Izolyatsiya Foundation (Naberezhno-Lugova 8)

20 July 20 – 28 September

Legendary American photographer and artist Christofer Makos, who shot for New York Magazine, Esquire, and People, has brought his works to Kyiv. The exhibition has two parts: one depicts photos of the artistic scene of New York back in the 1970s-80s, when pop-art and punk was blurring the minds of a generation. The other is eight photo-portraits of Andy Warhol in his female alter-ego. As close friends, Makos and Warhol did a 48-hour photo-session with the latter posing in different female clothing and make-up.

Eneida Project

(Art exhibition)

National Art Museum of Ukraine (Hrushevskoho 6)

24 August 24 – 8 October

Aeneid – a classic Latin epic poem by Virgil inspired Ukrainian drama-writer Ivan Kotlyarevskiy to write a Ukrainian version of the story in the 18th century. Since then, the poem has been published a number of times alongside illustrations by renowned Ukrainian artists. Due to wit and mastery of both the literary and visual aspects, the book became a real cultural phenomenon. A multi-disciplinary project in the National Museum shows more than 200 artistic works including illustrations for Eneida, paintings, theatre posters and even video-works.

Fragile State

(Group exhibition and performance)

PinchukArtCentre (“А” Block, Velyka Vasylkivska/Baseyna 1/3-2)

17 June – 7 January 2018

The Fragile State exhibition is definitely a big-ticket event in Kyiv as it brings together the works of world-renown artists Damien Hirst, Ai Weiwei, Jan Fabre, Carlos Motta, and Marina Abramovich. The exhibition examines the notion of fragility of the world and ourselves with all means of contemporary art – paintings, sculptures, art-objects, and performance. The latter by Marina Abramovich puts a visitor into “nothingness” – a space, where the senses of hearing and sight are limited and participants are prompted to interact with what they are left with – bodies and minds.
