- As of 22.00 on 20 May, there have been 19 230 confirmed cases of COVID-19. That’s up 354 cases since the day before. There are 12 711 active cases. To date, 5 933 people have recovered, and 564 people have died.
- It’s been one year since President Volodymyr Zelensky took office in Ukraine. On his platform were many promises of reform along with an end to the war in eastern Ukraine. Despite having been unable to accomplish either of these things, he remains very popular among Ukrainians. Among the stats, 35% of Ukrainians think Ukraine is headed in the right direction, 57% of people trust Zelensky, 39.3% would vote for him again, and 34% would vote for his party again.
- According to Ukraine’s Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii, Kyiv’s transport system will start to become gradually operational from 22 May, with the metro being fully launched by 25 May. - The Ministry of Education and Science is advising schools not to hold any graduation ceremonies for recent graduates “in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the 2019/2020 school year”. Entrance exams to local colleges and universities will still need to take place for those students looking to continue with degrees in higher education, and these will take place throughout July and August. The school year for all tertiary classes begins 15 September.
- While the youngest survivor of COVID-19 was identified yesterday in Kharkiv (a five-month old baby), one of the oldest survivors to date is 90-year-old Anna Dyakunuk from the Ternopil region.
