Lomachenko Looks to Unify Lightweight Titles
8 December at 3:00am (UA time)
Madison Square Garden (New York City, US)
Ukraine’s Vasyl Lomachenko (11-1, 9 KOs) will look to take Jose Pedraza’s WBO title when the two square off at Madison Square Gardens on 8 December. A superstar in this country for well over a decade, Ukraine’s two-time Olympic champion has taken the rest of the boxing world by storm. The WBA and Ring Magazine lightweight champion has blazed a record-setting path on his way to becoming the world’s top pound-for-pound boxer and the sport’s top TV draw. After putting together an amazing 896-1 record as an amateur, ‘Loma’ has set records for fewest fights to win a world title (3), fewest fights to win titles in two divisions (7), and in three divisions (12). The southpaw has knocked out his last eight opponents, including an unprecedented four straight who quit on their stools. He claimed his lightweight crowns in May by defeating Jorge Linares by TKO in the 10th round, despite having separated his shoulder earlier in the fight. One of the biggest fights of 2018 will be shown in primetime on ESPN.
