Maslyana

Ukrainian Selo Ethnographic Complex (Buzova village, Kyiv-Sviatoshyn region)
Maslyana is a traditional folk festival which marks the line between winter and spring in the folk calendar. The dates of the festival change every year, depending on when Easter falls, but the fest itself features an array of pancakes served with cheese, meat, or even caviar, while the burning of a scarecrow – a symbol of winter, accompanies the traditional holiday feast. The festival is aimed at expelling winter and awakening nature from hibernation. It also marks the beginning of the Lenten season so you’d better fill up while you still can!
