Jean-Claude Van Damme is in Kyiv
Kyivans will have to fight traffic in the streets this month as ‘Street Fighter’s’ Jean-Claude Van Damme is in the city to shoot his newest film for Netflix – ‘The Last Mercenary’.
Known for movies like ‘Street Fighter’, ‘Timecop’ and ‘Universal Soldier’ – as well as his epic Volvo Trucks commercial – Belgian movie star and martial arts legend Jean-Claude Van Damme will be in Kyiv this month to shoot his new film and create havoc with Kyiv’s traffic.
Road closures in the city centre will be a mainstay of the star’s time in Kyiv, where they are expected to last until 25 August. For a full list of road closures – and a guide to where you might catch the star in action – check out the Kyiv City State Administration’s notice here.
Van Damme will be shooting the action-comedy ‘The Last Mercenary’ while in the Ukrainian capital, as he announced during a July meeting in the city with Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko. Produced by Netflix, the film sees Van Damme star as a former secret service agent that needs to clear his son’s name of illegal drugs and arms trafficking. It’s Netflix’s first film to be shot in Ukraine.
So, if you plan to be in the city centre this month, note that your destination could become a “Hard Target” due to the “Double Impact” of blocked-off streets and a movie star draw. So, make sure you’ve got “Nowhere to Run” if you want to see one of the 1990’s “Last Action Hero”’s here in your own city.
And Kyiv – let’s not make this a “Bloodsport”!
Happy driving!
