Kyiv is Calling

The 2018 UEFA Champions League final is coming Kyiv this May, which means there are going to be a lot of eyes on the country. There is also going to be mass advent of football fans headed in our direction. We want to get people prepared not just for the footie, but for an incredible time in our fair city. So, What’s On is teaming up with Pearson Ukraine and Dinternal Education to bring you the Kyiv Calling competition.
Here’s the deal: individually or as part of a team (up to five people), make a video between 5-15 minutes in length, presenting the best of Kyiv in English. Any resident of Ukraine currently studying at a state school, university, or private language school may enter. The contest close 10 April, with the winner(s) announced on 10 May, each taking home a 1 000 UAH gift voucher and a spot in following issue of What’s On.
Micheal Hudson of Dinternal Education is the one who came up with the competition, saying the genesis was reading a recent issue of What’s On! “I realised I had no idea of half the stuff that was going on in Kyiv and that the vast majority of people visiting for the Champions League Final in May (or any major event) would be in an even worse position unless they came across your site. There’s lots online about monuments, but very little about how life in Kyiv is actually lived today. So, using the football as an excuse, I gathered together some writers I know and borrowed the title from The Clash (with echoes of last year’s Eurovision)!”
So Kyiv, make a list of your top Kyiv picks, grab your camera, and start filming – Kyiv is calling!
