Pop Royalty Pops into Kyiv
In another sign of Kyiv’s growing influence in global music, pop superstars Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson were in town last month to shoot the video for their single Nothing Breaks Like a Heart. Released on 29 November, the collaboration is expected to be one of the biggest releases of the year and has already reached the Top 10 in the UK. The clip, which shows the flashy songstress strut her stuff while driving along Kyiv’s New Darnytskyi Bridge garnered over 15 million views in just its first week online.
The song will make its US network television debut on 15 December when Miley hosts the popular tv show Saturday Night Live. The Wrecking Ball hitmaker first broke out as Disney’s Hannah Montana before being named MTV’s Artist of the Year in 2013. Ronson is best known for his song Uptown Funk featuring Bruno Mars, which was the biggest tune on the planet in 2016.
Kyiv has become a popular place for music videos recently. Earlier this year, American duo Twenty One Pilots filmed part of their Nico and the Niners video in the city (34 million views), while Calum Scott’s 2017 release You Are the Reason, also shot in the city, has attracted an impressive 266 million views.
