The Comic Book Convention to Stop them All

Get your invisibility cloaks and wands, Superman and Wonder Woman costumes ready – Comic Con Ukraine is back. The second installment of the pop culture convention and the biggest yet is set to happen on 21-22 September

“We have started a new tradition of themed conventions in Ukraine…where limitless entertainment and the warmth of communication with thousands of like-minded people await” say the organisers. But that’s not the only thing you’ll find at Comic Con Ukraine 2019.

STAR POWER

For those in the know, a unique opportunity to meet and greet your favorite actors, artists and game developers is part of the program. Who are the star guests this year? Christopher Lloyd, aka Doc from Back to the Future and Uncle Fester in The Addams Family, is heading to the convention. During the two-day event, Lloyd will be joined by Danny Trejo, who you will know from Spy Kids playing Machete and the roles of villains and bad guys in more than 500 films. In addition, die-hard fans of the phenomenon pop culture videogame DOOM will get to meet the creator – John Romero. Kyiv won’t be the same after these confirmed appearances.

COSPLAY

It would not be a modern pop culture convention without a cosplay competition. Hundreds of enthusiastic crafters will be dressed up as their favourite characters to compete for the impressive cash prize or a chance to win a trip to Japan and participation in the World Cosplay Summit.

With cosplayers wandering around the venue throughout the event, for those who have always dreamt of taking a photo with Lord Voldemort, Maleficent, or The Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland – get ready, your dream is about to come true.

Dog Cosplay will also take place at Comic Con Ukraine this year. German Shepherds dressed up as a four-legged Batman. What could be cuter?

Additionally, a dance-off is scheduled too. With the Cover Dance competition, crews will take on the choreography of their favourite bands (K-Pop and non-K-Pop songs), ensuring lots of fun.

The prize in the Cosplay and Cover Dance competition is the biggest in Ukraine – 100 000 UAH!

PHOTOZONES AND EXHIBITIONS

Is Comic Con Ukraine Instagram-friendly? 100% is our answer. Make sure you have enough free space on your smartphone before leaving home, as the number of curated photozones and pop-up stands from film distribution companies and game developers are countless.

But that’s not all. Project X1 will present a T-65-X-Wing Starfighter from Star Wars. Twelve metres long and 2.3 tonnes in weight, just imagine how impressive it is in reality. Not to mention 501st Legion – an all-volunteer group of Star Wars cosplayers who will be promoting their love of the SW universe in the hopes of raising money for homeless animals.

ARTIST PRESENTATION AND THE GEEK MARKET

Comic Con Ukraine will host the biggest geek market in the country. The number and variety of pop-ups to shop at will impress even hardcore shopaholics. You will be able to buy all manner of custom goods, branded merchandise, toys and books, along with anything pop culture- related.

There will also be panel discussions with French artist Bruno Duhmel who is the creative mind behind the graphic adaptation of Honore de Balzac’s novel Father Goriot and Colombian illustrator JagoDibuja, who created popular webcomic series Living with Hipstergirl and Gamegirl.

MUSIC STAGE

Once you have tried and enjoyed all above activities, check out the music stage. Featuring bands Magic Sword (they created the title track for Thor: Ragnorok as well as the trailer and the score for videogame Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number), as well as TimeCop1983, Orionix, Violet Raymoor, and more!
