The Birthday Party
26 January at 19.00
ProEnglish Theatre (Smolenska 3)
Stanley Webber is a tenant in a shabby boarding house owned by Meg and Petey Boles somewhere in a sleepy English seaside town. The unexpected arrival of two mysterious troublemakers, Goldberg and McCann, shatters Webber’s mundane world and disrupts his sense of security. Things get even worse when the intruders arrange a birthday party for him, which turns into a nightmare and changes the lives of all the characters. Written by Nobel Prize-winning British playwright Harold Pinter, the play was first staged in 1958 and heavily criticised. Nowadays, it is a modern classic.
