Beyond the Human Voice
Iyov (new opera)
6 April at 19.00
National Opera of Ukraine (Volodymyrska 50)
Based on the Book of Job in the Bible’s Old Testament, Iyov is a new genresynthesising performance that – its authors claim – combines opera, requiem and oratorio for the first time in music history. The show, designed for piano, drums, cello, and soloists compiles recitatives in Ukrainian and compositions with Latin sacred texts. The project premiered at Ukraine’s Gogolfest Festival in 2015 and received an ovation at New York’s Prototype Festival in January 2018.

Brecht in Kyiv
The Jewish Wife (play)
24 March and 14 April at 15.00
Sholem Aleichem Jewish Music and Drama Theater (Kyiv Museum of Alexander Pushkin, Kudryavska 9)
Bertolt Brecht’s works always evoke controversy. Nevertheless, many playwrights, including his contemporaries, supported his ideas and theory of an epic theatre.  From the 1950s onward, Brecht’s plays have been staged constantly across Europe. The Jewish Wife is one of the sketches that form his famous Fear and Misery of the Third Reich. The play depicts slices of life in pre-war Germany when ordinary people were forced to make difficult choices.

Poetry of Music, Power of Voice
The Telnyuk Sisters: Unplugged (vocal/instrumental)
27 March at 19.00
Palace Ukraine (V Vasylkivska 103)
Nights with the Telnyuk Sisters are intelligent dramatic acts, which unravel according to their own script, rhythm and scheme. Their repertoire is a sophisticated mixture of philosophical ballads, romances, sketches, a capella vocals, songs with elements of meditative recitation, trip-hop compositions and folk-meet-rock arrangements. On stage, they sort of talk to each other as well as conduct a frank and intimate dialogue with each spectator. An evening of good taste is definitely yours.
